Time to chill out - 2
I now continue with the list I had started some days back
Memento : Christopher Nolan, a first time director, produces a classic, both terms of storytelling as well as screenplay. What was best was that this movie was not produced by any major studio, and took the Sundance Film Festival by storm.
American History X : Edward Norton, thou art god! A strong movie with an equally strong message, makes you think about a range of issues, from rasicm to gun control. A brilliant one.
The Shawshank Redemption : Tim Robbins and Morgan Freeman star in this adaptation of a Stephen King novella, a searing drama about how the human spirit comes through many trials and tribulations. Excellent performances by the lead pair. Freeman does one of the best background narration jobs I have ever seen. Amitabh be damned.
Dil Se : Mani Ratnams first ever foray into Hindi Cinema, and without doubt, his biggest flop ever. But the movie had so many moments of magic, it will be impossible for me to forget. Shah Rukh Khan, standing on the railway platform in the rain, raindrops falling into his tea cup, watching Manisha leave and saying "This must be the world's shortest love story".....I just flipped.
More mooes from the holy cow to follow. Stay linked.
